Ashley Owen of Wrentham, Alberta was selected as the recipient of the inaugural 2022 Peak of the Market Ltd. Bursary.
“We’re thrilled for this opportunity to support a student who is so eager to learn about agriculture, and more specifically, the potato industry,” said Pamela Kolochuk, CEO of Peak of the Market Ltd. “I’m looking forward to watching the inroads Ashley will make in the industry.”
Owen grew up on a family farm in southern Alberta, frequently helping with tasks throughout the year. In her spare time, she would regularly help in the community by volunteering at the Wrentham Community Centre.
“Agriculture is not just an industry for me, it’s my passion and way of life,” said Owen. “It’s so amazing to be part of an industry that feeds the world, and I’m grateful to Peak of the Market Ltd. for recognizing the importance of helping students realize their goals and dreams.”
Owen currently works at Independent Crop Inputs and works with a variety of crops, including potatoes. After completing her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree at the University of Lethbridge, Owen plans to be an agronomist for processing and table potato growers and eventually earn her CCA designation.
